Votre véhicule est-il conforme OBD II?

Toutes les voitures et camions légers construits et vendus aux États-Unis après le 1er janvier 1996 devaient être équipés du système OBD II. En général, cela signifie que toutes les voitures et camions légers de l'année modèle 1996 sont conformes, même s'ils sont construits à la fin de 1995.

Tous les véhicules à essence fabriqués en Europe devaient être conformes OBD II après le 1er janvier 2001. Les véhicules diesel n'étaient pas tenus d'être conformes OBD II avant le 1er janvier 2004.

Tous les véhicules fabriqués en Australie et en Nouvelle-Zélande devaient être conformes OBD II après le 1er janvier 2006. Certains véhicules fabriqués avant cette date sont conformes OBD II, mais cela varie considérablement selon les fabricants et les modèles.

Deux facteurs indiqueront si votre véhicule est conforme OBD II:

  1. Il y aura un connecteur OBD II, et
  2. Il y aura une note sur un autocollant ou une plaque signalétique sous le capot indiquant "OBD II conforme" ou "OBD II Certified ".

Où se trouve le connecteur?

Le connecteur doit être situé à moins de trois pieds du siège du conducteur et ne doit nécessiter aucun outil pour être révélé. La plupart sont situés sous la colonne de direction. Si votre port OBD II n'est pas là, regardez sous le tableau de bord et derrière les cendriers.

Protocoles OBD II

Les constructeurs automobiles disposaient d'une certaine marge de manœuvre dans le protocole de communication qu'ils utilisaient pour transmettre les paramètres ou les PID, qui sont tenus par la loi d'être uniformes, aux scanners. Il existe actuellement cinq protocoles de communication OBD II différents utilisés: KWP, PWM, VPW, ISO 9141 et CAN.

Quel protocole de communication mon véhicule utilise-t-il?

En règle générale, les voitures et les camions légers GM utilisent SAE J1850 VPW (Variable Pulse Width Modulation). Les produits Chrysler et toutes les importations européennes et la plupart des importations asiatiques utilisent des circuits ISO 9141. Les Ford utilisent les modèles de communication SAE J1850 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation).

Il existe quelques variations parmi les importations captives telles que la Cadillac Catera, un dérivé allemand d'Opel, qui utilise le protocole européen ISO 9141.

Sur les véhicules 1996 et ultérieurs, vous pouvez savoir quel protocole est utilisé en examinant le connecteur OBD II:

J1850 VPW - Le connecteur doit avoir les emplacements 2, 4, 5 et 16 peuplés, mais pas 10 occupés.
ISO 9141-2 - Le connecteur doit avoir les emplacements 4, 5, 7, 15 et 16 peuplés.

Si votre véhicule a ce connecteur de style, mais que ces broches ne sont pas remplies, vous avez probablement un véhicule pré-OBDII. Pour ajouter une certaine confusion, même avoir le connecteur avec les contacts indiqués ci-dessus n'est pas une garantie de conformité OBD II. Ce style de connecteur a été vu sur certains véhicules antérieurs à 1996 qui n'étaient pas conformes à OBD II. La plupart des constructeurs automobiles sont passés aux protocoles de bus CAN depuis 2006.

Drag Strip and Dyno

The drag strip displays a countdown and timing light and measures your launch and reaction time. At the end of your run, you get a timeslip with the stats from the run. Measures reaction time, 60' time, 330' time, 0-60 MPH, 1/8 mile ET, 1/8 mile speed, 1000' time, 1/4 mile ET, 1/4 mile speed. If you use aftermarket performance parts, the new digital dyno feature will let you test horsepower and torque to measure their impact on your vehicle's performance-- just try out the dyno and see if those parts were worth the money! Supports both English and Metric units of measurement.

 

Data Logging

Currently supports over 220 generic OBD-II parameters, including O2 sensors. You can record and playback log files in real time (1ms logging accuracy). You can save and load your log files for offline analysis. Playback speed can be adjusted to play faster or slower than real time. There are no restrictions on how much data you can log, it is only limited by how fast your OBD-II interface cable can send the data and by how much memory you have in your computer. English and Metric (SI) unit measurement systems supported. Customizable log file data export to .CSV file for easy viewing in other programs like Excel. Export with real-time stamps for easy correlation with external data logs. PIDs can be assigned priorities to speed up the data capture rate. Full support for data log file bookmarks - if you notice the engine misfiring or some other problem, using the log file bookmarks you can just reach over and press F6 to add a bookmark into the logged data that is being recorded. Then you can come back at any time and see exactly where the bookmark is and view the surrounding frames of data to analyze the problem.
